October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Newcastle Elementary is well-equipped to cover this important topic via the Second Step Curriculum, and I am supplementing these lessons upon teacher's requests. One aspect of bullying prevention I'd encourage you to discuss with your child is "bystander power". Peers are an ideal population to report bullying, simply because there are many more students than staff! If all students have this on their radar and know how to identify it, report it, and/or prevent and stop it from happening, it creates a safer and happier school climate for everyone.
